Critical Area Permit Application Public Hearing
DHEC will hold an in-person public hearing regarding the proposed private recreational use dock Critical Area Permit application on Monday, Nov. 20th, 2023 at 6 p.m. The public hearing will be held in the Dogwood Room at the Callawassie Island Clubhouse on 22 Callawassie Club Dr, Okatie, South Carolina 29909.
The proposed project consists of constructing a 4' x 302' dock walkway leading to a 10' x 12' pierhead with an 8' x 8' 2-pile elevator boatlift for private recreational use. This project is located on a tributary of Chechessee Creek in Okatie, South Carolina.
Community Engagement
The public hearing will be held to provide interested persons the opportunity to comment on the proposed project. During the public hearing, DHEC OCRM staff will provide a brief summary of the proposed dock structure and accept verbal comments to be considered prior to making a final decision. DHEC OCRM staff does not respond to comments or answer questions during a public hearing.
A recording of the public hearing and all materials discussed will be posted on this webpage. If you have questions about participating in the hearing, please contact Sophia Valiulis at Valiulsj@dhec.sc.gov.
Written comments will be accepted through close of business (5 p.m.) on Dec. 4, 2023. Comments, along with any other documentation, photos, etc., can be submitted via the project’s Public Notice link in ePermitting. You can also submit written comments by e-mail to Valiulsj@dhec.sc.gov or mailed directly to Sophia Valiulis, Critical Area Permitting Project Manager, at 104 Parker Drive, Beaufort, SC 29906. All comments received by the end of the notice period will be considered when making a decision to approve, disapprove, or modify the permit. This decision will be based upon consideration of applicable regulations, the permit application, comments made at the public hearing and all other written comments received within the required time frame, and any other pertinent information.
What to Expect After the Public Hearing
Once the public comment period closes, DHEC OCRM staff will review all written comments. DHEC’s final permit decision will be made available on this webpage and by email or mail to everyone on DHEC’s mailing list who requested to be notified of the final Department decision for the 6 Dolphin Landing, Timothy Tysinger Critical Area Permit.
