Adopt-A-Beach volunteers organize and participate in beach cleanups and provide marine debris collection data to DHEC OCRM using the MyCoast South Carolina reporting application. To get started, visit the MyCoast South Carolina Adopt-A-Beach homepage to register, establish a beach cleanup group, and select a beach to adopt. Once your group is registered, download the MyCoast application on any smartphone that will be taken to the beach (available for iOS and Android devices) and use the Adopt-A-Beach reporting tool to record the trash you remove from the beach. Use the reporting tool to tally debris items as you find them; debris weight will automatically be estimated based on the items you find and report. After your beach cleanup, view a summary of your event under the Beach Cleanup Reports section of MyCoast South Carolina.
If you have any questions, please contact Adam Bode at bodean@dhec.sc.gov. Thanks to everyone working to keep our coast clean and healthy!
