The South Carolina Food Security Council (Council) was established by the South Carolina General Assembly in 2023. Under Proviso 34.70 of the General Appropriations Bill for Fiscal Year 2023-2024, the Council shall:
- Examine state agency programs addressing food insecurity in S.C. through monetary benefits or meal services covering infants through senior citizens.
- Identify gaps in services, especially for the most vulnerable populations.
- Make recommendations on improvements to existing services and additional programs.
A report of recommendations was submitted to the legislature on January 31, 2024. The Council is now dissolved.
